Our world is filled with data, drives and direct communication. While so much of our contact with both the world and others is through handheld devices, laptops are still very much an integral part of many lives. Not only do we research, write and read with our foldable device, but we also store our prized memories, from documents to photos to music. Our laptops are personal and prized, and losing it means a lot more than shelling out the replacement costs.
Unfortunately, a laptop is stolen every 53 seconds! That’s less than a minute to recognize that the tool we spend hours on end with has vanished into thin air.
Where is it going? While we can’t be sure where the final destination may be, we can read into some data that allows us to see where laptops are typically being stolen from. The most common culprits emerge in schools, areas of public transportation and bars. It only take a second to look away from where you just put your bag down, but it can take a lot longer to pick up all of the pieces.
What can you do to avoid the pitfalls that come along with getting a laptop stolen? Taking precautionary measures to back up all of your data, encrypt and password-protect your stuff and log out of applications keeps your information safe, at the very least.
Beyond that, keep track of your belonging! Stick a TrackR bravo on your laptop and/or in your laptop bag. Get alerted when something leaves your proximal range and quickly locate your laptop soon after. Don’t be part of a statistic! Prepare, protect and play outside of the numbers by keeping your laptop safe!
